Moving the Marketplace Forward

At Clipboard Health, our goal is simple: help independent healthcare professionals and healthcare facilities connect with each other to serve their patients’ important needs. The marketplace we’ve created does that by enabling facilities to fill open shifts while providing healthcare professionals with convenient opportunities to earn money on days and times that work best for their schedules.

How our marketplace works

Healthcare facilities post open shifts on our marketplace. Healthcare professionals are able to browse and select shifts that meet their preferences, gaining flexibility and opportunity with no obligation. After shifts are booked and completed by professionals, the facilities verify the shifts and professionals receive payment immediately - often on their way to their car!

Our marketplace ensures that independent healthcare professionals are given the flexibility they want. They are not required to book even a single shift and can have - and many do have - employment or work outside of their use of Clipboard’s marketplace, and/or educational pursuits.

We are proud of the positive impact and flexibility we have brought and continue to bring to countless Clipboard users. To quote Natalie, an LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse): “With the work I found through Clipboard Health, I paid all my bills and helped move 2 of my 3 adult kids out of my place and into their own apartments.”

Scaling the business and improvements

Today, over 15,000 healthcare professionals sign up for Clipboard accounts each month. As our marketplace has rapidly grown, some of our processes have needed to be adjusted to ensure a seamless experience for all users. Some of the areas for improvement we’ve identified are:

Payments: We know that historically there have been situations where it took longer for professionals to receive payment than expected; we are in the process of improving on this, and our popular InstantPay feature, available to all professionals using the marketplace, has already had a positive impact (more information below).

Booking Shifts: In order for Clipboard’s marketplace to function properly, shifts need to be booked using the app. Users should not book shifts outside of the app, and Clipboard will not support payment for shifts booked off the app.

Support: We understand that healthcare professionals use Clipboard’s marketplace to find open shifts and rely on us to receive payment for shifts they book using our app. From time to time, when there’s been an issue, we recognize there have been weaknesses in our support system. We are in the process of investing heavily in our support system to improve our users’ experience.

In the past year, we have released two critical product updates: InstantPay and auto-verification, both of which speed up payments to healthcare professionals after they complete shifts.

Instant Pay: With Instant Pay, professionals can be paid immediately after completing a shift. This gives professionals more economic flexibility as there is no need to wait for a ‘pay day’.

Auto-verification: The new option of auto-verification allows for quick verification of the completion of shifts booked on the app, without the need for manual entries from facilities or professionals. We have also instituted digital timesheets. When digital timesheets are used, there is no need for paper timesheets, which often are cumbersome and can lead to mistakes in the verification process.

Marketplaces thrive when all sides benefit, and this is exactly what we are building.

Professionals benefit from flexibility to book as many or as few shifts as they’d like, with no obligation, according to their preferences. On the other side, facilities benefit from access to skilled healthcare professionals capable of meeting their staffing needs, a fast and efficient staffing solution, and no hiring fees if they hire a professional whom they met via the Clipboard marketplace as their employee. ‍
